History

In June of 1984, Maria Montessori International School (MMIS), then called Maria Montessori Children’s House, opened its doors in a one-room, barn-like structure along Fuente Osmeña Road with only 27 nursery enrollees during its first school year.

That first batch of students were building blocks for the years that followed. By 1988 the school had complete pre-school and grade school departments for boys and girls and transferred to one of its present sites in Gorordo Avenue, Lahug. A decade later, the high school program was added.

In 2001, the Talamban campus opened another home for the Preschool, Grade School and High School levels. The school eventually changed its name to Maria Montessori International School in 2007. Known for being the pioneer in providing Montessori education in Cebu City, MMIS continues to nurture each child’s development into a self-reliant, responsible, and service-oriented individual.
